Talking to martians through the laundry chute

This morning I actually got out of bed at my third alarm. This is was a huge success for me, and I was very proud of myself. I felt like a real grownup. Except for the part where I'd fallen asleep in my clothes and forgot to brush my teeth. You win you lose.

I spent yestereve with [livejournal.com profile] cecilmcgrlybts and others, as foreordained, ate too much delicious food, spent a while pouring over the "Cakewrecks" book and having the pigs admired. It was good times and makes me sad that he will go away again next week.

[livejournal.com profile] caffeaffogato linked me to this today, and I want it, but I'm still holding out for Mami, with the hopes that she'll come with a Charlotte. Or Kyouko. As if I really needed more things.

Anyway, that question meme? Oh I got some questions! I will now answer them for the greater good.

From [livejournal.com profile] lady_leia_solo:

1. Did you want to be a pirate when you were little?

Actually, no. The piracy is a fairly recent thing.

2. If not, what did you aspire to be as a child?

A paleontologist. Then an actor, then a cartoonist. Then I started high school and thought I wanted to be a professor. Now I want to be a princess novelist guinea pig rancher who fluffs John Cho's hair on the weekends. My goals have actually gotten more ridiculous as I've gotten older.

3. What was/is your favorite subject in school?

History. I love history. And I write damn fine history essays/papers. Or did, it's been a while.

4. What's your favorite genre of music?

I dunno, I listen to a lot of random stuff. I'm kind of inclined to say "alternative," which apparently no one uses anymore. But that is the rock I listened to as a teen, and by god it defined me or something!

5. Who's your favorite singer?

Bic Runga or Emilie Autumn. Although I will always a have a soft spot for Tori Amos pre-"The Beekeeper."

From [livejournal.com profile] mabith:

1. Top five (or ten, your pick) favorite X-Files episodes

This question is beautiful and I love it.

Redux, Redux II, Syzygy, One Breath, Demons, Elegy, Milagro, The Unnatural, Three of a Kind, Tithonus. ...the sad part is that I can keep going. (X-Cops, Chimera..)

2. Favorite Ouran Host Club Haruhi pairing (and why)

You know, I'm not sure. I was always somewhat partial to Haruhi/Tamaki, but I don't actually have a good reasoning. I guess that Haruhi/Hikaru is actually fairly compelling, if largely because of the tension it would create between the twins, and how it would require them to learn to function as individual people.

3. First place and time you would go if you had a time machine (and why)

I think I actually might go back to somewhere in the US in the fifties, if only to peer strangely at everyone and watch some of the truly bizarre commercials and social hygiene films they had back then. Or you know...maybe I'd go sit in the trenches with the Manhattan Project scientists at the Trinity Test. Perhaps I would have stolen Oppenheimer's hat.

4. Favorite book/s you read as a kid

LITTLE FUR FAMILY. I still love that book. And "Olga Da Polga," about a sassy guinea pig. And I had some pretty sweet and adorable Sesame Street-inspired books too, like "My Doll is Lost." (Said doll is eventually found, thank goodness.)

5. If you could have any job in the world (even made-up jobs like "Queen Traffic Warden" or "Brigadier General of Ice Cream Tasting") what would you be?

Probably a "Guinea Pig Softness Tester" (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] starsandgraces) and part-time freelance writer.

It's not actually a terribly nice/warm day, but [livejournal.com profile] jou has been trying to lure people over to enjoy the pool at her apartment, so I may do that instead of going to the gym, and then make tamagoyaki for dinner. Also I brought a bagel for lunch and now I really want pizza instead. Boo-urns.

I love History! I'm thinking about majoring in it when I go to college. What's your favorite era of history?

[identity profile] maypirate.livejournal.com 2011-06-25 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I enjoy medieval history, like everyone, and post-World War II, which is ridiculously popular and I know it's unoriginal too.:F I tried to deny my feelings for it when I majored in Japanese History in college, and focus on the Meiji Era, but uh... yeah. Eventually I caved.

Technically, right now, it's the intersection of Japanese and American history beginning immediately after VJ Day. I think it's such an interesting relationship.

And Cold War America was SO DEEPLY WEIRD.

Wow, first glance I thought it said "Queen Latifa Friend" LOL!

That is also an acceptable career.

You should listen the Explodey Files podcast I do over at Dead Lantern

And hopefully I am not made of flies. We're excitedly on season 3 and damn I forgot how much I like "The Blessing Way"...trippy effects aside.

I absolutely should. Although probably not at work, since we download any and everything at the speed of mud.

I haven't watched it in a while, I really should...

WHY DO ALARMS HAVE SNOOZE BUTTONS? A POX ON THOSE VILE TEMPTATIONS.

I try not to buy figures (due to dolly overload), but some of the stuff coming out of Japan these last few months. Really cool stuff! I really had to stop myself from buying that Melon action figure. And that Hatsune Miko with the translucent hair...

"Guinea Pig Softness Tester" made me go awwwwwwwwwww :D.

I have so much trouble with alarms in general, because before too long I learn to turn them off in my sleep, or just keep sleeping through them. I really need to get another CD alarm clock to make horrible sounds two inches from my face.

I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THESE DOLLS. Are they BJDs? I have all of one, but she is beautiful. And more figures than I know what to do with/can display.

IT IS THE PERFECT JOB! :D

I considered getting one of those alarms that runs away from you at once point, but JFC they would scare the kittums.

Yes'm! Delicious, overpriced resin blobs that wander into my collection here and there. Erm, and have been doing it for awhile now, hence the numbers. What sort do you have? Are there... piccies? :D

I've only had your tamagoyaki for dinner once, but I think you should make that for me again some time. I have simple needs, you know.

[identity profile] maypirate.livejournal.com 2011-06-25 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I am happy to make it for you, all you need to do is ask! <3

I shall never accept my defeat! :( This morning, I woke up after the fifth alarm, but pfft, it's just two more. That's hardly anything.

HOMURA! Who is your favorite Madoka Magica character?

Hmm. I think there's something wrong with the HTML in the children books question. I'm not seeing any of Beatrix Potter's books. ;)

[identity profile] maypirate.livejournal.com 2011-06-25 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Usually it takes me no less than five. Or sometimes after a point the guinea pigs will start shouting at me so then I feel guilty and have to get up.

HOMUHOMU. Urrgh, I'm kind of stupidly attached to Mami for some reason, and then Kyouko. But really? CHARLOTTE. [livejournal.com profile] caffeaffogato and I like...imprinted on her or something. I have so much Charlotte/Charlotte and Mami/human versions of Charlotte saved on Pixiv it's kind of awful.

OH NO YOU'RE RIGHT THE UH...WEBS SCREWED UP MY...BEATRIX POTTER...NESS.... >.>

...I'm sure I read those too, I just I forgot! I had a lot of books! Don't judge meeeee!

*checks*

Currently have four alarms set for weekday mornings. The dogs and my husband hate me.
