Today this kid was like `is the honeymoon over for you, too?` and I said `yes. oh yes.`

Well it couldn:t last forever, huh?

It couldn`t last more than a week.

Trying to eat too much for breakfast has made my stomach feel lousy again.

I realize I*m an elitist about why my culture is better, why my food is better, why my way of doing things is better.

Culture shock? Sure. But with a snide kind of elitism stuck in their too.

It`s too fucking hot and it`s too fucking much and I`m tired. I want to go back to Oberlin.

All I do here is complain, now, but that`s my mood right now.

I did buy Typing of the Dead with my friend Andy. I guess that`s a good thing.

I*m sorry, I just...need some time alone with my Newsweek.

According to the person in charge of our overseas studies thing at Waseda, there are two main patterns of culture shock (and mine wasn't either, how helpful). But anyway, if yours follows the second pattern, as it seems to be, you should adjust to life more soon.

I had problems with meals for a while in Japan, too. I'm sure yours have an extra layer of 'fun,' but the servings were more than I could eat, but then I always got hungry really soon after eating. I think it's cause American food has tons of fat in it, so you don't have to eat as much, but it takes longer to digest and you don't feel hungry as often, while Japanese food is more starchy (?) or something, so you have to eat a lot to keep you happy till the next meal. I don't know. I adjusted to it eventually. At first, I couldn't even finish more than half a bowl of ramen, but after a month or so I was eating 'normal-Japanese-sized' portions.

Yes. But um in other things, I found Kyoto to be even worse to foreigners than Tokyo was, and I can only imagine the difficulties of actually living there instead of traveling. (Plus the guys in Kyoto aren't as hot as the ones in Tokyo, so you don't even have that going for you.)

But I hope stuff gets better for you. And I dunno if you noticed (I commented a few entries back), but there is a Subway in the Kyoto eki, and Seven-Eleven should have Pepsi. Bob and I really craved American food over there too. We were so happy when we found that Shakey's Pizza in Harajuku on my birthday... and we don't even like Shakey's over here... but it was sooo greasy and wonderful and American.

It's okay, you're allowed to complain. Hell, you're halfway around the world from where you're from; it's okay to feel that way.

Just take it easy, and things won't seem so bad after a while. At least I hope they won't.

Take care, love. ;) MWAH!
