Oni soldiers on.

We went back to the vet yesterday, where my poor pig had lost even more weight since last week, which caused me to literally walk in circles around the room making desperate sputtering sounds since that's apparently how I cope with things.

But the vet looked in her mouth and found some bleeding on one side - she seems to have some kind of irritation back there, which isn't entirely surprising given, you know, having her teeth filed. So she's been in pain and unable to eat, and the grinding has probably been a sign of her discomfort. Everything else was apparently all right, and he poked at her and squished her and said her precious organs were fine. He also said that she was very spunky and full of personality, and that the fact that she wasn't lethargic and was interested in eating (she was putting up a very good fight with some corn husks that she couldn't quiiite manage to tear) was a good sign.

So they gave us more anti-inflammatories, some antibiotics, and Critical Care, which is a dust you make into a mush and feed her by syringe or finger-lickery, which is super cute. Giving her the antibiotics is difficult because she raises her paws to push it away and it's adorable and frustrating at the same time.

She stayed at my parents' house last night in a little enclave with her pigloo, a stuffed mouse, her mush, and little pieces of vegetables, and she's still not passing anything, but I assume most of it is being absorbed. My parents will be feeding her the must every few hours while I'm at work, too, so she can get her weight back. She's still perky and that's been the most encouraging sign the whole time.

Oni is a very brave little pig. And today I can breathe without feeling like my heart is being slowly pressed to flatness.

Posts will hopefully contain more..other content soon.

Oni is a brave little pig and you're a brave and dedicated Oni-keeper. I hope this helps. I'm glad she's still energetic and happy. Hopefully the mush will help her get back to her full pig power.

Say hi to Oni for me! I'm glad you're breathing easier again. I miss you and Oni.

*hugs*

I've been following the saga of your guinea pig, and I hope she starts putting on weight and doing better. She is in my thoughts.

Send Oni my love! I know how distressing it is, when a rodent gets sick, but from the sounds of it, she's well on her way to a full recovery and I agree, it's a very good sign that she's being perky.

*hugs tight* I know how worrysome it is being a pet mother sometimes and I know how attached to Oni you are. She'll get better soon! Give her lots of snuggles from me. <3

Oni, you are such a tiny trooper! I'm sending positive vibes that this is the last catastrophe for some time to come. You both deserve some good old boring days without stress.

It's also a comfort to know that you have the Critical Care around now. And if she doesn't eat it on her own, be sure to syringe it up her. We want some chub on those bones!

As for giving her the antibiotics, if you haven't tried burritoing her in a towel or blanket, you could use that technique. Way back in the day it sometimes worked much better than dealing with the flailing paws and twisting head.

Good luck!

Such a brave pig she is!

And how wonderful that your parents can be around to help you care for her while you take care of that joy referred to as "work." She is a loved pig, that's for sure!

I've been keeping you and Oni in my thoughts. My sister's guinea pig was ornery about eating the antibiotics too. Is it a tablet that you have to mash? My folks figured a way to get her to eat it by pounding it into small bits and dust, then spreading it lightly on romaine (or other) lettuce leaves. Melmax would balk, but then keep eating. Oni sounds just as energetic and genki as her.

OMG a pigloo?

I hope things will be getting better soon. *hug*

I'm sure your dad and mom are going through agony papering their most favorite pig LOL. I'm glad she's okay, though. Fillings hurt, so I can totally cope with her D:
