And so I watched the Academy Awards with the rest of the world. As usual, I lost the "guess the winners" contest at work because I got a bunch of things wrong, including best actor and actress and song and costumes. Almost everything else went exactly as I expected.

Chris Pine was suddenly on the screen and then gone. Into the night.

To be honest, I didn't care for a lot of the show, but I know a bunch of other people really liked it, so there will be no parade-raining here. I thought Gabourey Sidibe was adorable and I'm mad at myself for not getting to "Precious" sooner, because the pre-street is sitting on my floor and I have to return it tomorrow and I know if I try to watch it now I'll fall asleep.

Anyway. I feel sort of bleary-eyed. I love movies and I hate them at the same time and they eat my face endlessly. I surprised myself with how many movie-related questions posed by Chris and my mom I could answer without thinking. Watching the awards made me want to see "Inglorious Basterds," which I've been ignoring for a long time, and while I'm interested in "The Hurt Locker," my one regret about its win is that it's going to become even more popular at the store than it already is (it's been one of the top rentals since it came out), and I won't be able to see it for a long time. Poot.

But boo on you, Academy, for not remembering Bea Arthur and Farah Fawcett. :(

Waaaaait, you got the costumes one wrong? As the winner said...it's always the movies about dead monarchs.

...although, in her defense, I've seen the costumes for all of the nominated movies, and hers were nice.

Chris Pine looked quite dashing in his tux, though I hated the lines they gave him to read about "District 9." For the first couple of seconds, he could have been talking about "Star Trek," and that seemed kind of tacky.

Couldn't you grab up "The Hurt Locker" before anyone else does? I just put in a request for it at UW.

I know, but..I dunno, I liked the costumes for "Bright Star" a lot, even though I couldn't get through the movie. I dunno, I thought comparatively they were more exciting. But I will freely admit that I don't have any idea what I'm talking about, especially not compared to you. :F

Honestly, for an embarrassing moment I thought he was Ryan Reynolds again, and then I figured it out. Dur. And that is a good point. I guess I was just pleased to see him at all, though. :F

It's difficult at my store because my renting it means a) no income on it (not that it would necessarily get any regardless, thanks to our stupid subscription plan) and b) if some crabby customer demands it and I have it, it reflects very badly on me and I will likely get scolded. If I pay for it, that's a bit different, but I kind of err on the side of extreme caution since I really never know what my boss is thinking and I already spend every day in fear of getting yelled at by customers for silly reasons. :(

Ah, well. At some point, the excitement will die down. You are being a very good employee in the meantime.
