Isn't it madness he can't be mine
Oct. 6th, 2005 01:54 amPAIRING RAMBLE FUN!
I totally forgot to also mention that people can suggest stuff from:
-Inuyasha (DUUUHHH)
-Sorcerer Hunters
-PeaceMaker
-Spiral
I am slow like monkeypaste.
Lina/Zel
VIcky is evil. EEEVIL.
Lina/Zel is probably the pairing I hate the most out of any anime and any pairing ever to exist. It's the pairing I've been the most militant towards, and I've gotten into ugly wars in the past about this.
I've never, EVER seen any bearing for it, except people thinking "Oooo, Zel is the hot fancy face," Lina is the main character, clearly they must be together," combined with a pseudo-Mary-Sue fantasy that they should be Lina.
What the hell ever.
Granted I was Lina/Gourry since the very first time I saw a picture of them, but it's totally and utterly OBVIOUS that he loves her, and she would do anything for him. He only has eyes for her, and her alone. He easily confesses that he plans to spend the rest of his life protecting her, he chides her for pretending to be dead and not thinking about his feelings, he screams his goddamn heart out for her, HE FACES DOWN GOD FOR HER.
And Lina clearly loves him back. He's the first name out of her mouth, especially in the Japanese, when you can hear her say "Gourry-tachi" meaning, "Gourry and the others," even if it's just translated as "the others." She cries for him. Her worst nightmare is him dying. SHE NEARLY FUCKING BLOWS UP THE WORLD FOR HIM.
....and she and Zel do...what for each other?
I will accept that Lina probably had a crush on him at the beginning of the series and the novels. I really like the dynamic of them as very close friends, because that makes sense. There's a certain amount of respect and competition and just general companionship that makes them fun to see together. But there's little or no romance. They're too fundamentally similar, and they'd drive each other up the wall if they were left alone together, as TRY put so plainly.
And I've said terrible things about Lina/Zel fans, but that was a long time ago. It hurts me to see them together in Eugene's beautiful art, but I've learned not to look. And I happen to greatly much like someone who likes Lina/Zel herself, and to my utter surprise, when she said that, I went "Oh. Okay."
So my rage has dulled over time, but you will never, ever in a bazillion years convince me that Lina/Zel is valid, logical, or something I'd want to spend time with. (Although I'd absolutely love to hear a convincing argument for the Lina/Zel after the last episode of NEXT. ;) )
Ed/Sciezka
I have to admit that I suck, and I never saw this one coming, but I see FMA through Al-colored glasses.
I'm not terribly familiar with Sciezka's character, but when I stop to think about it, it could be a very sweet couple, though I worry that much of their interaction would be Ed staring dreamily at her as she recites Alchemy texts. And maybe that's what they both want.
I think it would be a very gentle relationship, with lots of snuggling and reading, but I'm not sure Sciezka could deal with Ed being a total spaz. This is why the elements of Menage are key - because everyone balances each other out. I like them all together like that, and I can honestly see that a bit more than just Ed and Sciezka alone. But I kind like Sciezka/Winry, and am a bad girl.
Slayer/Sharon
This reminds me how much I am not playing Guilty Gear right this minute.
Slayer/Sharon clearly makes sense because she's his wife, and she's his support in more ways than one. I'll admit it's a bit weird that he kind of tosses her aside after draining her at the beginning of fights, but maybe that's part of their dynamic.
I really like the ending where he's sitting in some kind of study, and she's standing there with him - it's strangely warm for a character who is generally fairly spooky and badass. And the fact that Sharon herself possesses an array of badassery only makes it more attractive. Two mysterious strong people? They belong together.
It would be simply amazing if she became more as the games go on, even if she was just part of a special attack or something. She has a lot of hidden potential - what a team they could be.
I have a peculiar fondness for Slayer in that he kind of looks like my dad, too. If my dad were an assassin-vampire, which he might be.
May/Johnny
Awww, my May. My May, my May, my May. May is my favorite character in any video game ever.
Admittedly, May and I were introduced to each other because I was asked to cosplay her, and my boyfriend cosplayed Johnny. That where the me-May thing started, and it's never gone away. Of course, then, their relationship has sentimental meanings for me, but as far as GG itself goes, I adore their dynamic. I love how when you play them against each other, she gets all innocent, and asks "Ne ne, Johnny, do we really have to fight?" and he teases her.
May is utterly -almost scarily- devoted to Johnny, and Johnny clearly cares about her (the ship is freaking called "May Ship" after all) and goes to great lengths to protect her - even if he's not necessarily right to keep the truth about her heritage from her. I was utterly thrilled with the ending in GGX2 where May is feeling down and Johnny says "My little princess, shall we dance?" Certainly, Johnny is a player, but he does have that heart of gold, and he knows -with a kind of amused exasperation- that she's always going to be there, watching and waiting for him.
...it also helps my love for them and them together that they are the two characters in any fighting game ever that I can kick people's asses with. ;)
Amelia/Zel
I find it amusing that you're asking for my opinion on this after you read 100 PAGES IN THREE HOURS about it. ;)p Noodlehead.
Amelia/Zel is, to me, every bit the perfection that Lina/Zel is not. Amelia is naive at the beginning, sure. But she's young, she's been a bit sheltered, and eventually that works to her advantage. She's kind, she's well-meaning, and she cares very deeply.
She provides things that Zel wouldn't even process, and she makes him understand. And for god's sake, she's the only person in the world who can make that ass smile, even if it's at her own expense.
Their differences match up perfectly. They can cast incredibly powerful spells together, spend time together without one beating the other up, having conversations, and just enjoy each other's company. Zel may be a bit dense, but he's never overtly cruel to her, and I don't think he'd want to be.
And where Zel is happy to let Lina fall on her head on a rock and go "Ha ha, sucker," he goes out of his way to protect Amelia and keep her from harm. He actively gets between her and several things that could damage her severely, often at his own expense. And it's clearly her death at the hands of Hellmaster that makes him snap.
Obviously, Zel has serious affection issues that he has to get over before their relationship goes anywhere, but I think by the end of the series, he's starting to realize that you can't go it alone the way he'd always planned, and that someone who understands is waiting for him whenever he comes back. Someone can give him a home.
...I could keep going, I love Amelia/Zel, but there's always 100 PAGES OF FIC that express that. ;)p
Roy/Ed
Um.
So, uh...yeah.
It often seems to me that Roy/Ed is the Lina/Zel of FMA for me, only I don't want to kill people over it, because some of these people are my friends and I rather like them a lot.
That said, I don't like Roy/Ed and I never will. Partially because I'm totally Al-centric, and Al clearly does not come into play there, but also because I honestly can't see Roy finding that a clever use of his time at all. Roy, as someone said to me earlier today, is a proud motherfucker, and he has lofty ambitions that involve much more than a kid in a red coat with a foul temper. I doubt he'd endanger his plans to fornicate with Ed, and furthermore I don't think he'd even be interested.
I love the way they interact, and Roy clearly enjoys pissing Ed off and playing with him, despite the fact that he also obviously cares. But I simply can't see it being sexual. I think
liete did an excellent job parodying this in her awesome fic Word Play, and that's about how I think it would go if the situation arose. Roy could make it into a game, but not one he'd ever consent to taking too much part in.
There's also the bad touch factor of "their hate must be love!" and that doesn't make sense to me. As Bart Simpson's GUide to Life says: "The more they act like they hate you, the more they really like you. Unless of course they really hate you."
And I think Ed really wouldn't like taking it up the ass from Roy.
But hey, that's just me.
Mulder/Byers
THAT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!
YOU KNOW IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!
MULDER/KRYCEK MAKES MORE SENSE AND THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE!
Sure, Mulder and Byers both dress well and are hot, but Byers is clearly committed already - first to Langley and Frohike, and second to Suzanne Modeski- and Mulder is clearly part of Scully. While he may have gotten naked for Mulder in the hospital, I just...I mean...IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! *flails*
I can't even remember how you came up with this....
...butterfingers?
Roy/Havoc
SSSHHH!! AJA WASN'T SUPPOSED TO KNOW!
Errrr...something happened in my brain. I think it was the idea that Havoc is unlucky with women, and Roy is hot, and then some doujinshi where Havoc was a Hughes substitute, and then me getting tired of the idea that he was doing Hughes and then something exploded and everything was on fire for seven days.
I guess I'm rather fond of the loyalty. The scene with the two of them in the manga was incredible, especially since before then we'd never gotten to see Roy practically begging someone to stay alive. Havoc was one of the five people he called to take to Central from East City, and so Roy clearly trusts him deeply, and Havoc would follow him anywhere.
I really think the idea got spawned from me toying with Havoc/Hawkeye, and then thinking about how they're both blond, and how Roy might like to have both of them...and then it went funkynuts.
AND YOU ARE NOT HELPING PAIRAKA!!! ;)p
Envy/Ed
WEEEEIRD.
SPOOOOOOKYYYYYY.
Envy freaks me out, seriously.
I think it's another case of "clearly, their hate for each other is a form of their repressed sexual desires" which again, I don't entirely understand. Envy is MESSED UP IN THE HEAD where Elrics are concerned, and I think the best (term used loosely) situation for them to have a plausible relationship would be one where Ed is a raging masochist because he just can't stand all the things he's done, and Envy is more than happy to oblige him with some severe sadism.
...and now I'm creeping myself out.
Roy/Riza
Roy/Riza is why I got into FMA. They were supposed to be my OTP, dammit, but I think they weren't because Riza is a very hard character for me to get into the head of.
But I think it's a lovely, perfect couple.
I'm touched by Riza's complete and utter devotion, which is carried out to an extent that doesn't make her simpery or weak, but only a hundred times stronger because of her drive. She wouldn't hesitate to do anything for Roy, but even so, she doesn't think he's any manner of perfect. She knows his faults and follows him anyway, because she's aware his strengths will eventually override them.
And Roy clearly trusts Riza about anyone else, with the possibility of Hughes, although he doesn't...uh....count anymore. I would hazard that on a lot of levels he enjoys having her there to keep him in line, and his slacking is a way for him to play with her. She's his partner in crime, and I think he asks her to do the things because he knows she's strong enough to stop him, but lets him go anyway.
And they understand each other.
Roy: I didn't tell you to stop.
Riza: You looked like you wanted to stop.
Obviously, Riza's much more open about her feelings, especially at the end of the series, but Roy certainly isn't denying them. I think they're gorgeous together.
Elricest
....so Roy/Riza was SUPPOSED to be my OTP and then THIS happened.
When I read/watch something, I almost always -with few exceptions- gravitate to the most obvious pairings. I think that speaks VERY LOUDLY when it means that the reason I picked Ed and Al together is because I thought it made perfect sense. Despite them being, you know, BROTHERS.
Ed is a selfish brat a lot of the time, but there's no questioning that his big, squishy soft spot is Al. And the reason I even started thinking about this at all is because Al is clearly all about Ed. They're *obsessed* with each other, and yes, to a large extent they're all they have, but even so, the amount of time they spend together, and the way they worry when they're apart.
Right now I can't help thinking about "Love Song" by the Cure: "Whenever I'm alone with you, you make me feel like I'm home again; No matter how far away, you know I'll always love you; whatever words you say, you know I'll always love you." I don't think it's ever been a question that their love is unconditional. They know each other's weaknesses, and they cover them for each other. They fight and they make up and they fight again, and they've shared every mistake. They've been through *everything* together, they've seen the worst of each other, and then still want to be together.
tavella said that even without a romantic element, FMA is really their love story, and I totally, utterly agree.
...but when they're romantically involved it's just 8 billion versions of hot.
Ed/Lust
HOLY MONKEYPUDDLE.
I'd never even thought of that.
Like the thing with Envy, Ed/Lust would scare the crap out of me, but in a different way. Lust is an absolute puzzle to me, and I can't imagine what she'd want to with Ed or what he would want with her unless she was just trying to be brutal and he had hit his head very, very hard.
Actually, maybe they could play a horrible game of seduction where Ed tries to use her to get to the stone inside her, or beyond her to the man in charge, but that seems far-fetched.
Lust/Ed.
O.O
Whoa.
Langley/D&D
LORD MANHAMMER WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE.
Holy shit, who wouldn't love D&D? (NO ONE ANSWER THAT, SECRET HOBBY REVEALED OH NO)
Aoshi/Misao
Aside from the fact that this pairing brought me to some very, very wonderful people who I love, it's just...awesome.
I always loved Misao. She was cute, perky, amusing, and reminded me of a less explode-y Lina. Aoshi resembled Dynast Grausherra, my favorite Dark Lord from Slayers, and immediately got props for having short dark hair (my favorite).
I think it's another case of each being the supporting half of the other. Misao is everything Aoshi is not and everything he needs; like so many fics address, she is the light where he only has dark, she's the one who illuminates his life. Misao is his connection to humanity.
And for god's sake, she's been in love with him her whole life. I could never buy something like "oh, it's a guardian/guarded person thing," because she puts so much of her heart into finding him, being with him, breaking him out of his shell, trying to do anything. And more than that, she's willing to wait for him, however long it takes, however stubborn and clueless he is. And above all, she, like Kaoru does for Kenshin, is willing to look past what he's been and what he's done and see him for what and who he is, not good, not bad, just Aoshi. She knows his flaws, and she loves him anyway.
...okay, and there's something incredibly hot about a huge guy and a teeny girl, and I spend waaaay too much time considering the physics of how they have sex. Like seriously scary amounts of time. For it is the hotness.
WHEW!
That was FUN!...any more? :)
