You! Swat at imaginary elves!
Nov. 1st, 2005 02:27 amNote to self: do not leave friends list alone for a day. It becomes quite scary.
Wrote my book review late last night on my dad's computer, which I think I prefered to working in my mom's office because I could adjust the lighting to my academic writing needs. I felt severely accomplished after having done this. It was a four page paper. Oh my god, my standards have crumbled.
Went to class today and did a ridiculous amount of drawing, and even some listening, but probably that had something to do with the fact that our speaker was one of our oldest family friends and I like hearing him talk. I really need to scan some of this stuff and break out my poor markers again. I hope they haven't all dried up.
Spent the afternoon with
monkeybobert, making Oni into a teeny witch and taking pictures of Bob dressed as Virginia Woolf. It was a lot of fun and she looked gorgeous, and if you have eyes -any number of them- you should go look at her awesome Woolf-y-ness and my photographic genius at her journal photobucket account here.
Following this rousing photoshoot, we watched more "Veronica Mars," which Don practically forced at me and which is upsettingly....addictive...damn....*shifty eyes*
And now
"SAW" IS APPARENTLY THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER OH MY GOD. WE HAVE 20,000 MOVIES, AND ALL ANYONE WANTS IS "SAW." Every single copy of it is rented, included the ones we have for sale. If one is returned, it will be rented again before it has been in the store 15 minutes.
At one point, three people called within five minutes of each other, all wanting to know if we had it in, and I kind of pitted them against each other in a little race by telling them each "Well there's two other people who want it, so if you run, you might beat them..." It was sort of like playing God, only much lamer.
But then I felt bad when people got there and were disappointed that they didn't get it.
I think the better story, though, was a guy who came in and specifically asked if we had any "Nunsploitation" films.
NUNSPLOITATION.
...that's not even a freakin' subgenre, it's like an anomaly in the space-time-movie continuum. Blaxploitation: valid. Nunsploitation: what the hell? Did he expect that we categorized things like that? "Oh sure, let me just direct you to the nunsploitation section."
It's approaching our 20th anniversary too, so we had this special one-day sale for particularly prolific customers. They called it a "secret sale, by invitation only." Except that every poster about our anniversary benefits mentions this secret sale. ...YAY GO US WE WINFAIL!
Also, NO YOU CANNOT RENT "SAW."
Meant to do pairing rants and memories tonight, but got sidetracked as usual.
Tomorrow I'm going to go to Borders. BORDERS. I haven't sat down and read a book for myself since I finished "His Dark Materials." ....reading "Copenhagen" for inspiration last week didn't count.
Right on, going to bed before 4 tonight. Stayin' alive, baby, stayin' alive.

Date: 2005-11-01 09:51 am (UTC)If you're going to start a "Nunploitation" section, you'll have to include the wonderfully cheezy Italian flick "The Sinful Nuns of St. Valentine" (http://www.livejournal.com/users/patgund/501959.html).
Actually, weirdly enough, most of the "nunploitation" movies come from either Italy, France, or Spain. All very Catholic countries. Go figure.

and i got to rent "Saw" ;p
