This is the last time I saw you
Feb. 6th, 2006 04:56 pmFriday night, when I was going to pick up Megan at the airport, I took a turn too fast, slid on some ice, went up on a curb, knocked over a pedestrian crossing sign, and busted the front left wheel of my car.
I thought I'd gotten a flat, or bent the rim, which wasn't too bad -the sign hadn't left any damage to the front of the car- but it turns out that I'd bent the frame, and my parents decided that was the end.
I love that car. We've had it for more than half my life, and I learned to drive in it. That car is my automotive life. I believed we had a symbiotic connection - I could do anything in that car, and even to the end, it protected me.
It deserved better.
It deserved a cooler accident, or a better story or something. It didn't deserve a stupid curb and an airport road.
And granted it's just a car, but it's a car I fucking loved and grew up in, and I've always said that when they tried to take it away, they'd have to pry me off the roof.
My dad and I went and got all our stuff out of it, and when I locked it for the very last time I burst into tears, and all I could say was "I love you," and "I'm sorry."
Rest in Peace

Date: 2006-02-06 11:19 pm (UTC)I'm glad you were able to say goodbye to it. You gave it a good life. Better a pedestrian sign than an accident that could have been dangerous to both you and the car. I'm sure it's happy.
Rest in Peace, Amber-mobile, Ambus, and whatever else I may have called you over the years.

Date: 2006-02-07 07:56 am (UTC)I get painfully attached to inanimate objects, so I suspect I understand how you feel a bit -too- well. *brings flowers to the car*
