Wake up and go to bed
Apr. 25th, 2006 12:06 pmSo...I woke up this...uh....11:15 to find not one but FIVE MESSAGES FROM COE that said things about me needing to wake up and put on my pajamas and go to bed like a real person.
And I am so sincerely amused. I love you guys, you creepy freaks.
Unfortunately, though, my phone was on vibrate, so I missed your messages, and woke up on top of my sheets in my clothes. But I appreciate the effort. You're all whackos. <3
And tonight, I think my parents want to talk to me about loans, their wills, and other incredibly boring financial stuff. Bleh. Bleh.

1: What is your favorite genre to write and to read?
Uh...I dunno, I love novels, basically, not really any genre-specific, but things that catch my fancy. I like the occasional mystery, too, but I don't avidly go after them like my parents. The mystery aspect is usually encompassed in the general...novel...format. I also really like reading academic/non-fiction books about things I'm interested in.
As for writing, I like writing short, funny things, or bad!sex, or severe mental anguish draped on my favorite character. :) And I really do like writing papers if I'm really into them... I like sitting in the dark in the middle of the night with one light on and my "academic playlist" on my headphones.
2: Who is your favorite author and favorite book and why?
QUESTION DOES NOT COMPUTE! ABORT! ABORT!
Um...I dunno, I have so many friends who are wonderful writers...And Shakespeare is kind of a given...
I guess Douglas Coupland is one of my favorites, because "Life After God" changed me, and not in ways I can qualify or explain, but the world was different after I'd finished it, and it's something I've carried with me all the years since I've read it. Haruki Murakami's "Wind-Up Bird Chronicle" initially did that for me too, but I've switched to having a deeper focus on "Hard Boiled Wonderland." That being said, though, there's not one author I consistantly follow or whose work I collect/read all of.
As for a favorite book? Aaauugh, too many. "Life After God," of course, but I loved LotR, "Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris is too funny for words, Natsuo Kirino's "Out" was incredible, "Microserfs" was the best love story I've ever read...
It's like how I can't pick a favorite movie. :)
3: What is the inspiration for your writing style/writing process.
The way people talk. An idea that I get while driving. Songs. Songs are a huuuuge inspiration for me, and a lot of my stories have been structured around songs, though not in a song-fic sort of set-up. But lyrics have an incredible power over me, and I collect them. Lines will stand out to me and I want to build stories around them. I guess that's one of the reasons I love doing FSTs.
Also I love making people laugh. I will go very, very far for laughs.
4: Is there any type of story or style you've always wanted to try that you haven't before?
Uhhh...I dunno, maybe something general, as in not pairing-centric? I really suck at those, I always have some romantic or deep personal connection going on in all of my fics, and I can't shake it. I guess I'd like to learn not to fear multi-chaptered fics again. But you know how they say, twice bitten, oh my god bleeding on everything I think I have rabies oh no my brain.
5: Do you prefer to self-edit or to have a beta?
I self-edit mostly, but I always like to have other people read things before I post them just to see if things are working out. I don't have a beta so much as a lucky Mikke, and people who will tell me when things don't work.
6: What site do you primarily read Fanfiction on?
These days, LJ. Occasionally I will go back into the wilds of ff.net, and I've definitely searched the interweb for Aoshi/Misao once I ran out of things on ff.net and mediaminer in Japan. :) Also, I trust that my friendly friends will point me towards good things or send me things they're working on.
7: What turns you off from reading a story?
Bad grammar makes me die inside. Poor characterization of my favorite characters. Sucky, sucky situations and bad porn writing and boringness. I really don't like boring things.
8: What was the best criticism you ever received?
Um...just people saying that things didn't work and giving me the ways and words to fix them. I admit that I cave under harsh criticism. I wish I was stronger.
And what the fuck is with my LJ window reformatting itself to be uber long and obnoxious? I am sick of this! Go back to your regular shape, fool!
