maypirate: (Aoshi questions)

I have it stuck in my head, but I wasn't going to title a journal entry "Suicide is Painless," no matter how good a song it is.

Because yeesh.

Anyway, ganked this from [livejournal.com profile] kaltia, because I've actually wanted to do something like this for a while:

How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you should know? How many times have you felt 'guilty' asking a close LJ friend a question that should be 'obvious'?

Well, here's your chance.

If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything. Even something extremely basic. I'm not allowed to get even slightly irritated at any of the questions -- we've all missed things before.

Feel free to ask even things you don't think you should already know. RANDOM AMBER FACTOIDS FOR THE FUN TIME.

When were you in Japan and why?

*blinks* Oh right, I forget you didn't know me during the EIGHT MONTHS OF TERROR and the FALL OF 2004 OF TERROR.

I was in Japan from Sept. 2003 to Apr. 27 2004, on the Associated Kyoto Program for my junior year abroad. And I lived with a host family in Kyoto. And went completely, utterly insane. Not always in a good way.

Um, how the hell did the whole keeboo thing start? And why were we talking about bread that time?

Don and I were lying on his couch and he said something like "I'm going to sleep!" and he started making this "kee...boo...kee...boo" sound and I said "I'll keeboo you." And then it became a word!

And we were talking abou bread because my parents were in New Mexico and I was running out of food -and bread- cuz I can't feed myself when there aren't people around to take care of me. And you offered to donate to my bread fund. :)

It's a reference to a story that Aja and I were reading where the author was... uh...well they made it seem like there was this dress that no one had seen, not even the person who was making it. :p

You studied something in college, and grad school, and stuff. But WHAT? All is shrouded in mystery.

Oh my! I didn't know you didn't know!

My B.A. is in East Asian Studies, and my focus was (surprise) Japanese history. I wrote my thesis/Capstone paper on anime and Japanese culture, and that's how I won the grant to go to Japan for a week last year.

However -and this is where it gets confusing, or stupid, depending- my MA and PhD will be in American Studies. Specifically post-1945 American atomic and popular cultural.

Because you see, the ultimate plan is to be a historian of American-Japanese cultural history and relations. TA-DAAAAH! :)
