There's a storm on the way

I've basically been hearing about heavy weather coming towards us since I got up this morning, and the tension and the waiting is getting to me. Tornado watches always make me feel icky and nervous, and we're under one until midnight and I have to go to work and if we hadn't had that tree thrown through our window three years ago, maybe I wouldn't be so edgy.

The wind's been really strong all day, and it sounded like some detritus just blew into the side of the house. But no rain or thunder yet. That's how it happens, they sneak up on you.

I love a good thunderstorm as much as anyone?

But I'd really rather stay home and cower against the basement wall with Oni than have to watch it all come down from the huge front windows at Four Star.

I really hate tornadoes.

Edit: Dad just came downstairs and said that he's "never seen a white patch on the Weather Channel's radar," and "this is gonna be tough."

And the worst part is the waiting and knowing there's really nothing you can do.

Oh god. Oh I hate tornadoes.

I was a bit concerned about when/what was coming today at work...but I must say it has been uneventful. I didn't go to yoga and just stayed around here waiting for the worst, but luckily nothing happened. I guess it just missed us...

I've been terrified of tornadoes since I was small, for no real reason. I've never experienced one, one's never hit the city in my lifetime, and I don't even live in a tornado-prone area. But for some reason . . . egh. I'm just not right until the tornado watch/warning has passed. The fact that the route to our family's hunting camp took us through miles of trees missing all their branches from a tornado many years past might have contributed to my lasting childhood paranoia.

I barely made it out of Madison last night...all the flights were delayed and I managed to get a standby seat on a flight that left 2.5 hours late.

During the class I was teaching they kept talking about wind gusts and tornadoes and how there was a storm shelter not far away and how the Marriott is a big solid building which shouldn't have a problem and arugh.

We don't GET weather like that in Pennsylvania!
