[FST] "Something in the Air" - An FST for Aidan MacManus (Part 1)

Something I've been working on for a while, and I wanted to post this first part before I go.

Aidan MacManus is an original character (and Christian Bale lookalike, yes) created by myself and timbean. If the last name sounds familiar, it's exactly what you're thinking. In the "canon" of "Aidanverse," Aidan is the cousin of the Connor and Murphy MacManus, the infamous Boondock Saints.

Aidan himself, however good an Irish Catholic boy he is, is no saint. Actually, Aidan and his father are demon hunters. Sort of. Aidan's father trained him in the mystical demon-hunting ways, but when his dad wasn't around (which was most of the time) he tended to slack off. So he's not a particularly good hunter...just knows how to use a gun and pray and fling charms and things at the right times.

Aidan moved from Ireland to New Orleans at about 11 or 12. He speaks several languages, most prominently French and Cajun, especially when he's particularly drunk, tired, horny, or all of the above.

The first part of the FST is about the span of Aidan's life from about age 15 until 24, and involves two of the most important people in his life: Isabeau "Beau" Boudreaux and Dean Winchester.

Aidan's smart, but not a great student. He's athletic and gymnastic, but often pretty clumsy. He loves sex and driving and New Orleans. Aidan is also an only child, and though he would rather no one know, he doesn't like to be alone.

3. La Pluie et Le Beau Temps - Zazie

Beau is Aidan's best friend and more - in the absence of his parents, Beau becomes like a sister, and then Aidan's entire family. And she hunts too, so it works out perfectly! ...mostly.

4. The Ghost Woman and the Hunter - Lacuna Coil

You're moving on
you'll never be a part
of all my tears
I cry aloud

But while she and Aidan are in college, Beau drowns in an accident on a hunt.

Aidan's not sure if he's at fault for Beau's death. He drops out of college and takes up a fulltime job as a bartender.

7. Time is Running Out - Muse

While on a hunt, Aidan meets Dean Winchester (yes that Dean Winchester) and the two strike up an interesting camraderie that becomes an attraction and then a kind of affair. Aidan falls in love with Dean; Dean might have feelings for Aidan, but he's already in love with someone else. Yeah, you know who.

8. Against All Odds - Postal Service

How can I just let you walk away
Just let you leave without a trace
When I stand here taking every breath with you, oh...

How can you just walk away from me
When all I can do is watch you leave...

And eventually, Dean leaves and Aidan is crushed.

9. Laugh I Nearly Died - Rolling Stones

I've been travelling but I don't know where
I've been missing you but you just don't care...

I hate to be denied

I feel pushed aside
But laugh, laugh, laugh
I nearly died

Not so long after Dean's departure, Hurricane Katrina destroys New Orleans (and Aidan's house on Irish Bayou), and he heads north to Boston, taking some old ghosts with him.

10. A Bad Dream - Keane

I wake up, it's a bad dream
No one on my side
I was fighting
But I just feel too tired
To be fighting
Guess I'm not the fighting kind
Wouldn't mind it

And sometimes the ghosts (and the memories) get a little too strong to bear.

Aidan gets another bartending job in Boston, stays with his cousins, fucks around, but... for an Irish boy, he could still use some better luck.

12. Ain't No Reason - Brett Dennen

And approaching 25, Aidan's doing some thinking about his life. And some hoping.
