A sorta fairytale

Last night I got home around 6, and decided I would try to beat Odin Sphere, assuming I'd be done by 8. It took much longer than I thought, and I didn't finish til after midnight, and it was gorgeous, touching, and sad.



OH GOD EVERYONE DIED! ;_;

Okay, not everyone, but even Brom and Myris died - if they were on Horn Mountain like Gwendolyn suggested. And the Cauldron was a fuck to fight; climbing it every time was a royal pain.

And donburi thinks they're stupid and useless, but it broke my heart that Mercedes and Ingway died. I knew he would, that was kind of hugely unavoidable, but I was hoping Mercedes would come out of it. At least he died thinking about her, and she...saw his corpse? Wait, that part is still sad! I was hoping there would be some sneaky secret ending where it turned out they were okay.

Leventhan was such an oddly quiet fight, and the background music was beautiful, and Gwendolyn falling to earth afterward was incredibly poignant - "In all history there has never been anyone as brave as you."

I was thinking about playing the rest of the possible endings, but I found a summary of them on Gamefaqs and there was nothing but sorrow, and it only gets worse every time, and I don't think I could bear it. I've never buried myself in a game so deeply, and with the exception of the Guilty Gears, I've never loved game characters so very, very much. Everything about it was amazing.

But waaaaaaaaaaah Mercedes and Ingway! ;;;_;;;


For those of you who don't want the spoilers: It was fanfuckingtastic amazeotron, and is the greatest game that isn't Guilty Gear that I've ever played. I'm not sure why you're not playing it right now, and I don't care if you don't like RPGs or don't have a PS2. Just buy the goddamn disc and spin it around on your finger and shine a flashlight on it. Just being that close to it is worth it.

In celebration of my achievement and the wonder that is Odin Sphere, here is a picture of Ingway drinking tea that I colored really badly in like 23 seconds on OC3 and forgot to edit out the background smudgies:

The lag at times was pretty intense, but I forgave it because it was a small cost to pay for some of the most gorgeous graphics ever.

Oh, and the ending you played, was it one of the bad ones or the "good" one? I really warmed up to Mercedes, and the two twins from Valentine are my favorite characters, so the tragedy of Ingway/Mercedes being the only ones with such level of sucking fate is very D:

It was the good ending, or at least the ending that followed the prophecy. The other endings just get sadder and sadder.

And I loved them too! I mean, I guess they made sacrifices so that everything else could happen the way it needed to, but it was so very sad, especially since they each died alone. ;_;

Ah, well, there's an ending in which they either die together, or one got to hold the other while the former dies. I think the good ending wasn't that one, but I can't remember now. I do know there IS an ending where that happens and it's really sad.

...I kind of haven't played the game yet because it's not in European format yet. But I found most of the cutscenes so I'm familiar with a huge part of the canon, if not all the important part.

I/M is my second favorite pairing ;_; The first is Velvet/Cornelius because I seem to have the ability to prefer the ship people like the least but by a tiny diference.

Even now I keep my eyes aimed soley at the bottom of the page, as to avoid the spoilers. Congrats on your victory though. I will have to try to regain my vigor and plow back into the game. Not having read the spoilers, I can't comment on the end of the game, but I hope it was all you dreamed off.

Another game you might enjoy is something Grimoire. I forget the first word. Art by the peoples of Odin Sphere, it's a sort of real time strategy game for the ps2. I dunno, perhaps you'd enjoy it.

Ah yes, Grim Grimoire. I've thought about it, but I'm kind of horrid when it comes to strategy. Also you can't run up to stuff and hit things. I like running up to stuff and hitting it.

Aww. I looked this game up on Wikipedia, since I didn't have the first earthly clue about it. It sounds like a game version of The Neverending Story. How awesome!

From what I vaguely remember of Neverending Story, I think it's a bit like that! It's so lovely and beautiful. I think you might really like some of the characters, too. :)
