My boss called me a little bit ago to tell me one of my coworkers -Richard, who I worked with all day yesterday- was in a serious bike accident. She didn't know exactly what serious meant in this case, but he was in surgery and...she said she'd call me when she knew more.

I'm not going to say that Richard and I were terribly close, but we are friends, and I'm kind of disoriented right now. I don't know what kind of accident it was but all I can think is that he, and almost everyone else who works there, and that I know, never wears a helmet when biking.

It might not even be a head injury, but... I don't know. It seems callous to think about what this means for schedules (though I'm sure I will later since now I'm the only person trained to open and we just lost someone to Chicago). I'm worried and sad.

Please wear a helmet if you go biking? ;_;

*hugs* Even if it's someone you're not epic best friends with, it's still worrisome to see someone you know get hurt.

As for biking, my parents always refused to let me ride without a helmet, which I *hated* *loathed* with a passion. So I sold my bike and never rode one again, because I'd rather not ride than wear a helmet. I still feel the same way. Hence, the reason I don't own a bike.

I hope your friend gets through surgery okay and that he has a swift recovery. I'm sending him good thoughts and healing vibes. And as far as scheduling goes, it *is* a valid concern, so don't beat yourself up for considering it. *snuggles*

Here's hoping he's okay. ♥ ♥ I'm really sorry that happened.

I always sort of neglect to wear a helmet the few times I do ride a bike, but then I read about things like this and they always remind me that, yeah, it's a pretty good idea to protect your gray matter.

Strangely enough, I was with Richard last night. He and Steph are friends and several of us were out downtown. In fact, I heard about the accident last night. My phone woke me up at about two in the morning and it turned out be Steph calling to ask after your phone number in order to somehow to reach your boss through you. I guess maybe she didn't reach you but for what it's worth she didn't seem to think the accident was too bad last night. I hope she was right…

I always hated being forced to wear a helmet while biking when I was younger, but I always do now, for the same reason I always wear a seatbelt. Better to look like a dork or be slightly uncomfortable than to be horribly disfigured or dead.
