I would have made the world just so
Feb. 6th, 2010 10:18 amThis morning I woke up to my dad calling to say he wants to get together and talk about finances and my thesis. Normally I'm not scared of my dad, but I found this incredibly ominous. I'm sure the finances thing will devolve into an "oh god figure out your life" thing, and as for my thesis... I was hesitant to have him read it in the first place. I know it's not my best work, but uggnggnhh. But it's time for me to learn to take criticism.
We saw "The Road" on Thursday night and it was. Um. It honestly kind of messed me up for a while afterwards. It was really good. It would have been better if the theater where we saw it hadn't started throwing a large college party in the main entrance in the middle, because it's a quiet movie with lots of silence and endless not-even-faint pop music really took me out of it. But I stayed because I didn't think I'd be able to make it through it again and maybe it was good to be taken out seeing as I felt funny and sad until yesterday afternoon, and if I'd been more engrossed, it might have been even harder. So it's worth seeing, especially if you like post-apocalyptic stories. But you might need to bury yourself in fur and rainbows later.
But now, to brighten things up, from
comically_so, a meme!
Comment and I'll give you a letter, then you have to list ten people/places/things you love that begin with that letter, afterward post it on your journal and fill out letters of your own.
I added pictures! :D They are pretty and you should look!
1. Thomas Stroud-Macmanus
Tom is an OC belonging to
jou, and he is the much beloved husband of my own OC Aidan. Tom is surly and sexy and is physically based on Hugh Jackman. He's very smart and pretty hard to know, but he loves his man and his cat and I love him.

One of my favorite pictures of Tom (and kitty), by Joface of course.
2. Tokyo
I lived in Kyoto, but my heart kind of belongs to Tokyo. I went for the first time the day after Thanksgiving 2003 and there are songs that I listened to on the train that still remind me of it to this day. I love Shibuya and Jonathan's Restaurant in Harajuku and Sakura Hotel in Jimbocho, I love how it is endlessly new and old and I miss it every day.

zoechan,
yawmin, and me in Shibuya, the last time I saw it in 2006.
3. Tonkatsu
Tonkatsu is pretty much my favorite food ever. It is breaded pork cutlet and it has this magical sauce and I could eat it every day and for a while in Japan I did - I got it at the cafeteria every day and it was always deeply fulfilling. It's also the only relatively complicated thing I can cook.

I could eat that shit right now. Christ.
4. Titles
When things have a good title, this pleases me very much. I often have titles before I have stories - sometimes they never get past the titles and then they just live in my head for years with the frameworks of stories their words inspired. And maybe I have the title of my theoretical book of personal essays picked out. It's awesome.

This is an excellent title. Of course I read it. It was great. Cake is awesome.
5. Taiga
This is a bit random, but it comes from repeatedly falling asleep to the "Seasonal Forests" episode of Planet Earth, which starts with an aerial view of the Taiga near the arctic tree line and it's so beautiful I can't even stand it.

Taiga is also a fantastic word. More information is located here!
6. Tribbles
For many a year, I said all I ever wanted out of Star Trek was tribbles. It turned out I was wrong, but tribbles are awesome. The tribbles episode was the very first TOS episode I watched. Also, my dad believes tribbles are based on guinea pigs. It's true that the similarities are striking.

I love this picture.
7. Trilobites.
I'm starting to run out of t-words, can you tell? Anyway, trilobites are Wisconsin's state fossil and back in my early, aspiring paleontologist phase, I had a few.

I too have trouble with Dorito bags.
8. Tolkien
So I haven't read the Silmarillion, and I don't know elvish, but I really love Lord of the Rings and I think the movies are utterly deeply magically fantastic and I can't watch one without watching all.

9. Teratology
Teratology means "the study of monsters" or "the study of marvels" and is the phrase used to describe the study of abnormalities in humans and plants. And because I am a weird medicine freak like that, I think it's fascinating, particularly the historical study of it.

"Monstrous births" and "extraordinary beings." How can you pass that up!
10. THEM!

And there you have it. Now I guess I should get out of bed and shower and eat food or something. Have a good day, y'allz.
Edit: I forgot "travel!" I love to travel very much and I don't get to do it nearly often enough.
