Thank you everyone who wished me happy birthday yesterday, and for the LJ balloons and the delicious fics that I haven't had time to read yet (I was so tired last night and I didn't want to waste them on my non-comprehending brain) and just...thank you for being my friends. It means a lot to me. ♥
I went out to dinner with
infinityduck and Joel and my parents, drank some sake and had the woman tell me she wouldn't have guessed I was even 21, and then had
decken,
cecilmcgrlybts and wife, Beth, and Lizzie over for a cupcake tower. It was a low key evening and it was pretty great. And now you know. :)
So I fell behind on the 30 day meme thing, but I figure that since it was my birthday, this is allowed. I will make the day 3 post later today. But first.
Day 02 → your favourite movie
Of course it's hard for me to pick one. I once managed to designate my five most important movies, but I guess my long term fixation with one stands out. So even though
soda_and_capes already picked the same thing...
The Prestige.

It's kind of perfect. I love the story, the characters, the acting, the cinematography, the music, every single emotion it conveys and plays with. I loved the book and I loved the sweet little fandom and this movie is the reason I like Christian Bale, not the other way around. :F I think it was so, so excellently done, and I like it so much I can hardly stand to watch it because it blows me away every time.
Good Night and Good Luck

I think this movie is beautiful. I love looking at it and hearing it and it's sharp as a tack and poignant and skjdfhsjkdfskd.n 1950's political movie nom nom nom. When I plays at work I like to just lean against the TV and sigh.
Lord of the Rings

All of them. One long beautiful extraordinary piece of magical wonder and beauty and light. I can't watch one without watching all of them. I loved LotR before the movies and I love it now, I love Pippin and the One Ring and no movie has ever made me cry as much as "Return of the King." There's a lot of meaning in these movies for me.
Princess Mononoke

This has always been and always will be my favorite Miyazaki movie. Everything about it is endlessly gorgeous and it's as hopeful as it is heartbreaking. And I thought the dubbing was excellently done. Not just because Scully was a wolf god, but hey, that helped.
A Hard Day's Night

I love the Beatles, and this movie possibly makes me happier than any other. Just being near it. It's like the visual representation of pure love and happiness and being young forever. Yes that might be waxing too poetical. But no other music movie has ever gotten to me as deeply, and I can't imagine any ever will.
What's a bit odd about all of these, however, is that as much as I love them, I don't actually watch them very much. Even the last one, which would probably help my bad days get better, but I'm so afraid of it being tainted by a foul mood. That's really something I need to get over.
Regardless, they are my special movie angels. And now you know!

Date: 2010-03-04 02:12 pm (UTC)I'm very excited to hear about terrifying experiments and I was looking through the book and it said something about "decapitation" and that looks pretty great. Also I owned "Nightwork" a long time ago - it was a possible reading for one of my first Japanese history classes, but I have no idea what happened to it AND I never got around to reading it anyway, so YAY I WILL LEARN.
Thank you my woman, you are so good to me. I MISS YOU.
