day 16 → a song that makes you cry (or nearly)

I thought about just linking the song itself, but I found this super excellent-quality version of the place where I first heard it/saw it and...that's part of the reason I love this song.

The song is called "One More Time, One More Chance," by Yamazaki Masayoshi, and it's used to incredible poignancy and amazingness at the end of Shinkai Makoto's "5 Centimeters Per Second."

I love Shinkai's work, I love his style and his stories that are about love and longing and friendship and being alive and all the things that are sad and beautiful at the same time. My layouts for the past year have been of his art.

This movie and this song are important to me. I bought the DVD the day my seven year relationship ended -peacefully, but it was still a conclusion. I've written the lyrics on a letter to a someone I missed terribly. It reminds me of the difficulty of loving and being depressed and searching and hoping and living and always growing up.

It breaks my heart and draws me always forward, just the way Japan does, even after all these years. Stupid Japan. I will never get over you.

Anyway, even if you don't like anime and/or you don't speak Japanese, the art and the editing are so amazing and you can feel the song's meaning anyway... but I put the translation under a cut. So you should give it a shot. :)
