maypirate: (HP - Slytherin Dungeon)

This is really random, but I desperately need something to explain this to me:

I keep seeing signs like this around. Not Kirkish, but with the "Keep Calm and [do somethingsomething]" crap. There's about a trillion icons with variations of it and there's a store downtown that sells...I dunno, placards of it.

WHAT IS IT FROM? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Someone please help me with this mystery.

It's a slogan/logo from Britain during WWII, repurposed by geeks to the current day.

Thanks for the info! It all becomes clear now.

Speaking for non-poser Slytherins everywhere?

I SEE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH DUNGEONS.

Also, the part about my mother may be more accurate than I'm currently willing to contemplate.

Hey I got nothing wrong with dungeons either, I just think the icon is absolutely hilarious, especially considering it echoes a lot of the thoughts I had regarding Slythering while reading HP. :F

I'm very fine with Slytherin, and have gone on record saying that I would not mind being sorted there. Granted I would probably end up in Hufflepuff.

Oh, never mind me, I was just making a spectacle. As usual. ♥

I'd make a shitty Death Eater, because I don't take orders. Period. But I'd be that bitchy loner Slytherin who hung out with the Ravenclaws until someone organized a panty-raid on Gryffindor or something.

MY MOTHERLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND

it was ww2 propaganda apparently. it kind of makes sense, and it's a lot better than the other examples of ww2 propaganda (some of which were flatout hilarious). it's the whole stiff upper lip thing we brits pride ourselves on; during the london blitz the government released lots of photos of smiling determined people standing around the wreckage of their bombed homes, being all "if these people are smiling and happy after being blown up, the rest of you can shut the fuck up and stop whining!"

Wow, I was totally thinking of getting you some kind of product with the Keep Calm and Carry On thing on it for Christmas! Our local bookstore has mugs, towels, pens, and pretty much any other gifty-thing with the crown and slogan on it and I found it entertaining (and good advice).

But I see others have already explained the British goodness.

I appreciate the thought, but I think we both know that something reading "Keep screaming and flail wildly" is really more up my alley. Or more accurate at least. Sure, keeping calm would be good advice, but we're talking about me here. :F

If they had a Keep Screaming & Flail Wildly series of products there's no way I couldn't buy it for you. But alas. We'll have to wait until you start your fabulously successful line of random items.
