After at least a year of going back and forth about whether it would or would not be a good idea, and in a gambit to make (as [livejournal.com profile] cecilmcgrlybts's wife says) "all the money in the world," I have finally submitted an application to be a "Word Artist/Technical Writer" at Epic Systems, a large employer in Verona that has employed four people I know - two who have good things to say about it, and two who have bad.

Maybe it would be a good job. Probably they won't even call. I guess I have nothing to lose.

I find it oddly appropriate on many levels that "Lose Yourself" came up on my playlist as I hit "submit."

You have nothing to loooose! But if you get an interview, the writing portion is bizarre, I hear. My friend who was a writer there told me about the prompt she got and it was odd. I could ask her since I can't remember.

Are Don and I the pro-Epic constituent? I liked it, but people's opinions tend to be one extreme or the other. Some of this is just individual meshing with it and some is the team you end up on... it's a crapshoot, but it pays well, is good experience, and you could love it. Who knows?!

I'm glad you went for it regardless of what you hear.

If you wouldn't mind asking her, that would be great, because now I'm all wary of what it might be.

And yes, you and Trumpy Don are indeed the pro. I actually have a long email from Corin debating the pros and cons, but I know he was less than thrilled overall.

I HAVE CONCERN.

I just sent her an e-mail to ask for the prompt she got.

There's no need for concern at this point! What's important is applying for potential jobs and learning more if they're interested. If you get an interview call me and I'll tell you all about mine and regale you with pros and cons of Epic. I'm overall pro and would totally consider working there again were I in Madison, but there are cons as with anywhere (and of course I'm sure there are major changes in the 3 years since I've left).

I think honestly it's worth a shot, and it'll be experience. If it's awful, you stay there a year and then find something else.

I'm wishing only the best for you though!

It's likely I won't even get called, it's more that I finally got over the year-long block that kept me from applying, largely because I consider it Don's territory, and also because of things my friend Corin told me about working there.

But yeah, it's definitely worth a shot, and thanks for your support, always. <3

I remember never getting very far with Epic, but I wish you all the best. It doesn't hurt to try at all, as you never know what might come of it.

Yeah that's basically how I'm operating right now. I need to figure out some other venues too, no question.

I never had much luck with Epic, but I was applying for jobs in their training department. I only made it in to interview once and that was all the further I got. I wasn't impressed with their process. I have no clue what they are like to actually work for.

I tend to consider Epic my ex-boyfriend's domain, since we were both thrilled when he got hired there. And while things ended on a good note, I've always sort of felt that it was his space.

I've known four people that worked there, and the ex and my friend Bob had/have a great time. My friend Corin was incredibly disenchanted and left, and a friend of Chris' was fired when someone else on her team utterly dropped the ball.

I've spent a lot of time going back and forth on it, but I just...I don't have much to lose. I doubt they'll call, but the point is that I'm taking a stab at a better job. Ideally. :F
