HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY [livejournal.com profile] decken! I was late because your mom did not call me to organize your party. ;) I hope your year and life is filled with all sorts of linguistical magic, liquors of a pleasing variety, and much cookery. Also you should come home sometime. Just sayin'.

Yesterday, Richard told me my boss had been musing about whether or not I get all my hours in, to which he told her that I come in early and on the weekends which is true, and I would have told her the same thing. But you know...she never actually said anything to me. So I worked a solid 8-hour shift in back, getting all sorts of things done with minimal break-time, just to spite her.

Then I entered a semi-zombie state for the rest of the evening and was kind of useless to everyone. Ah, well.

From the talented young [livejournal.com profile] squarededdie,

(1) Have you been to other parts of Japan apart from Kyoto?

I have indeed! I did some traveling on my own, with my host family, and also my program had two fancy bus trips. So I guess I'll try to list what I remember:

Personal traveling: TOKYO (Harajuku, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Asakusa, Jimbocho), Osaka, Nara, Sapporo.
With host family: Otsu, Uji, Taiji/Daiji fuck I can't remember...to be honest a whole lot of places on bus trips where I had no idea where we were, I just liked riding the bus and getting to read all day.
Program-affiliated: Dogo Onsen, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Meiotoiwa, Ise, Koya-san.

And on trips back afterward, I went to...man some place outside of Kyoto where my friend was on JET, and Nagoya.

Koya-san continues to be one of my favorite places in the entire world, and I would absolutely love to go back there and maybe actually camp out. And I think because I lived in Kyoto and dealt with day-to-day semi-drudgery there, and Tokyo was a mystical wonderland, I kind of liked Tokyo better. :F

I miss the amazing and beautifully effective train system so much. ;_;

(2) Which three films would you take with you if you had to reside on an island all on your own for one year?

ARJSHGKDGHK OH GOD I DON'T KNOW. Can I count all the LotR movies as one? No? Fiddlesticks. What about a season of X-Files? Or my set of Planet Earth?

If it specifically had to be individual films, I guess I would take "The Prestige," "Suspiria," and uh...I dunno, "Princess Mononoke." Then I would have some degree of variety. But maybe I would replace "Suspiria" with "Ocean's Eleven," it's hard to know.

(3) First thing that comes to mind when you think of snow:

YESSSSSSSSSSS.

...and then that time I walked 2 miles to work in a foot of snow because I am the best employee ever it would have been nice to get recognition for that ugh.

(4) Favourite mode of transport:

I like driving, but like I said, I miss the trains in Japan, and I like to fly very much. I'll accept anything, though, as long as I have something to read.

(5) Any plans of adopting more guinea pigs (Dawwwww, they're so fuzzy!)?

FUZZZZZZZ. And not at the moment, no. I mean, if a guinea pig came to me and was like "please shelter me," I wouldn't turn it away. But the pigs already have a fairly large cage (4'x2') and I'd need a bigger one if I had more and I don't really have the space. Or the funds, since they're kind of spoiled when it comes to their feeding. And they're a handful on their own, really. :F

Also Nicky and Olivia came as a bonded pair, and I'm not sure how they would react to other pigs, it would really depend on the personality of the newcomers.

But someday, when I have a house and better funding, perhaps I could maintain a somewhat larger herd. All the pigs for me.

Since the last question was about mah pig habits, and it's Saturday and I'm a lazy bum, here are some pictures of my girls being lazy bums.

This may actually be the greatest picture I have ever taken of Olivia. She didn't even flinch, it was amazing.

Nickers.

I realize that picture may not make a lot of sense to people who don't stare at pigs all day long, so I have helpfully added notation to it:

..okay so it's still not a good picture, but I had to try. SHE WAS SO CUTE.

I love it when they sit together, all chill.

Right now I should put away my laundry and change my sheets, but I will probably laze around with fuzzies instead. I may go swimming later, and hopefully this time it will not be so cold.

Nickers gets an A+ for cuddliness and a C- for survival instinct. I can picture the dragon thing being like "Come sit in my mouth, it's a great place to nap!" and the guinea pig not seeing anything wrong with that plan.

She is SUPER CUDDLY. She is the pig for cuddling. Cuddle-time pig.

And to be fair, it's not just her, Olivia has done it too:

They also have a fish, and they used to have an elephant...

I'm not actually sure how guinea pigs survived in the wild. :F

Thank you!

Did my mom once call you to organize my party? This seems familiar but I can't remember what that is in reference to...

She did! She was like "Amber, you need to call these people to come over for Gretchen's party." And I did! We ate noodles. :)

Oh, wow. Well that was very nice of you! I hope we all had fun.

Bob and I watched "Syzygy" this evening and thought of you.

I LOVE PRINCESS MONONOKE FOREVER. It is my favorite Miyazaki and nothing will change that.

I posted a picture a few comments up with Olivia also in the gator. They just like sitting in sheltered places!

But I do nibble at their ears sometimes. >.> It's okay they chew on me! They are much more likely to ultimately eat me than I them.

The family I stayed with in Japan showed me Princess Mononoke the first night I was there.

I mentioned I was a nerd on my family matching sheet, SO I GOT TO BE WITH OTHER NERDS.

And watch Miyazaki movies every night.

Ahem. Are they tasty? You have to be my surrogate in this.

Like owner like pet(s). ;)
NIGGERS! is so cute! But cannot survive out there. Too vulnerable. But that's A-okay. ANYTHING is okay when you're cute and fluffy.

I will have you know that I am very afraid of alligators and live on the second floor because I insist to myself that alligators can't climb stairs. Not that we have any in Wisconsin, but you can never be too careful!

And yeah, I wouldn't let them loose in the wild, or even in most of the house. They would get into too much trouble, and mommy would have a heart attack. :F

Wow, you've been everywhere! I've got to add "Visit Koya-san" to my To Do List.

Haha, that photo with Nicky and the dinosaur is too cute to be true. Does she do that often? Is it her special hideout?!

Also, the LotR movies should be considered to be one epic film.

I haven't, really. I mean, I wish I could even remember the names of some of the places I went with my host family, but my listening comprehension has always been lousy, and I was always so happy just to have a day to sit and read. But Koya-san is heartbreakingly beautiful, and is the only place in the world where I would ever consider going camping, so I recommend it, although it's a bit of a hike (train-wise) to get there.

And she does it fairly often, or at least when the alligator is clean and around. They have igloos and other animals to sit in, and they're rotated so the pigs don't get bored. Olivia does it too: Image

I can't watch just one of the LotR films, I need then all! And I cry every time.
