My part of a midnight bargain with [livejournal.com profile] western_ink

.) My middle name is not my mother's last name, though people often think it is.
.) My mother is a Catholic farm girl from Nebraska.
.) My father is a Jewish boy from Manhattan.
.) I was born in California, but for most of my life I preferred New York.
.) Now that I'm older, I'm always looking west.
.) I really like my name, but Ambers in movies are always whores.
.) I have no siblings, and I used to have nightmares my parents would have other children.
.) I couldn't have a cat when I was little, so my parents got me a guinea pig when I was six.
.) His name was Fuzzball (remember, six).
.) After Fuzzball, there was Sparky (she was a girl). She died of old age.
.) When I was 10, I broke my arm falling off a bench at a supermarket.
.) To this day, if I have my left arm bent for too long, I have trouble straightening it.
.) But I can hyper extend both arms, and damn but the left one freaks people out with the crazy angle it gets.
.) I have a terrible fear of needles and blood drives.
.) I have had four boyfriends.
.) All of them played musical instruments, and 3 of the 4 had cats.
.) I prefer cats to dogs, unless the dog is Cookie.
.) I still have the blanket my grandmother made me when I was born.
.) Actually, it's on my right knee right now.
.) I used to be embarrassed about it when I first went to college, but now I embrace it.
.) Because I am 22 and can't feed myself, so why can't I enjoy my blankie?
.) I like to have something to do with my hands when I'm reading.
.) I have a terrible habit of picking at my nails.
.) When I was a freshman in high school, I was the only one of my friends who wasn't have some kind of psychological troubles.
.) During that time, I drank a lot of tea.
.) After that time ended, I stopped drinking tea for many years because it would remind me of bad things.
.) I'm incredibly superstitious. Unfortunately so.
.) During my sophomore year of college, for about a week my roommate and I lived on Keebler "Toast and Peanut Butter" crackers, and now I can't stand to look at them.
.) I love to write, but I often scare myself into not starting.
.) I am incredibly confident, yet fiercely insecure. It's a strange combination.
.) There are only four albums that I can listen to straight through without skipping around:
.) Bic Runga - Beautiful Collision
.) RieFu - RieFu
.) Weezer - Weezer
.) Weezer - Pinkerton
.) I think Pinkerton is probably the most brilliant cd to come out of the 90's.
.) I can cook one fancy thing, and that's tonkatsu, and it isn't even very fancy.
.) I'm a black belt in Karate.
.) But right now I'm hideously out of shape.
.) I have the terrible tendency to hate things just because they're popular...but not everything.
.) Harry Potter is one of those things, and I refuse to ever read it.
.) I like snuggling and holding hands, but I think sex is hugely overrated.
.) I own no attractive underwear, and most of it is white and plain.
.) I collect t-shirts.
.) My first love was Nintendo, and Street Fighter II.
.) Oni seems to like to stare at me when I'm on the computer. She comes out of her plastic house and lays down, just watching...watching...
.) I have a fairly multiracial family: two of my cousins are half-Chinese (by way of Peru), two are half-African American, and two are half-hispanic. They're all Catholic.
.) I'm Jewish, but I get into more arguments about the validity of my Judaism than anything else.
.) I wear a Star of David necklace that I never take off, but generally people have to have it pointed out to them before they notice.
.) I love photography, and taking pictures of all kinds of things. Especially me.
.) I'm so vain, I probably think that song is about me (and it is).
.) My first encounter with anime was when I saw "Akira" in afterschool when I was 8 years old. Freaked the shit out of all of us.
.) Much of my youth was defined by movies that scared/traumatized me, like "The Hobbit," "Secret of Nimh," and "Time Bandits."
.) I am still afraid of "Secret of Nimh."
.) The first thing I looked up on the internet was the website for the movie "Clueless," and pictures of Alicia Silverstone. I remember being shocked that she might have been swimming topless in one of them, even though you couldn't see anything. My my my...how young was I.
.) Oni isn't eating very much lately, and it scares me.
.) I only cried three times the entire duration of my stay in Japan.
.) I was re-introduced to anime around age 12, when the assistant in an art class I was taking showed me some of "Mermaid Scar." Something of the art stuck with me, and after my Bat Mitzvah, I spent most of my Borders gift certificates on the Ranma 1/2 novels. The rest is history.
.) I failed my drivers test twice, both times by more points that it was possible.
.) No, it wasn't because I killed someone.
.) My parents seem to think that if I don't go into teaching, I'll become a novelist.
.) I love Dungeons and Dragons, even though I can never remember how to figure out all the stats or the dice rolling.
.) One of my greatest joys in life is making people laugh.
.) I had leading roles in four Shakespeare plays: The Winter's Tale (Autolycus), MacBeth (MacDuff), Romeo and Juliet (Romeo) and Richard II (Henry Bolingbroke), but I never got to play Hamlet or Henry V, my two dream roles.
.) I am more terrified to be alone in the house I grew up in than to walk across shady Oberlin Ohio in the dark.
.) My favorite number is 22, but it changes annually, for predictable reasons. However, I do have a special fondness for the number 19, and I prefer odds to evens.
.) I love things, things of all kinds. Some of these things are shiny. I'm a terrible packrat and hate to throw any of these things out, even when they're useless.
.) I hate lonely food. LIke if there's only one candy, or one piece of broccoli or something. It must be eaten, or it must have a friend.
.) I passed out in the Science Center my sophomore year, and that was the first time I'd ever passed out.
.) I got my first ride in an ambulance that day too! But it was only around the corner, and they didn't even blow the sirens.
.) I think I passed out last summer after I cut myself trying to make a salad for dinner with my mom, Don, and Vicky. I don't remember going from falling at Don to the floor, but my stuffed Ein was serving as a pillow when my memory comes back.
.) I played the violin for eight years, and used to have terrible fights with my dad about practicing.
.) I did jazz dance for seven years, and every time I remember that now, I think "What the hell?"
.) I love acting, which is one of the reasons I'd like to be a teacher. I couldn't make a living on the stage, but teaching is still getting up in front of people and performing.
.) However, I have terrible stage fright before every performance.
.) I have an obsession with the sound of falling water.
.) I am often afraid that people will suddenly not like me, or stop loving me, or generally find me terribly boring and go on with their lives, never speaking to me again.
.) I love snow.
.) I'm terrible at FPS games and most of the stuff they come out with now because I have some sort of hand/eye failure thing going on, and I also have no sense of where I've come from or where I'm going. I remember playing Wolfenstein way back when, and I'd go forward and I'd hit the wall beside the door, and I'd have to back up all the way across the room and aim for the door again. Usually it took several tries. And then I fell off a lot of things when I tried to play Half Life.
.) I am the only person I know who didn't cry at "Grave of the Fireflies."
.) One of my three favorite places in Japan is Mt. Koya, and I ran around the graveyard there in the dark, after midnight with no shoes on for hours. It was probably one of the most amazing nights of my life.
.) My best friend and I were terrified of each other upon initial meeting.
.) I can type pretty damn fast, not bad for a kid who used to cheat at Mavis Beacon.
.) When I reflect back on middle school, I realize that it was a very evil time, and there were a lot of hard things going on around me, but at the time I wasn't aware, and I'm grateful for that.
.) From age 8 to about 14 I had a pathological fear of weather (read: tornadoes) that kept me nervous all summer long. If the watch sign came on the TV I'd go down to the basement with some stuffed animals and read until it was over. I used to wear sweatshirts to try to convince myself that if I could bear to wear them, it was too cold for there to be a tornado.
.) I'd gotten over that, and then a tornado actually did hit my house last summer. It reminded me of a scene from the movie "Poltergeist" and destroyed my dad's garden. Now we're all a littler nervous.
.) I used to hit people for swearing, but now I cuss like one badass motherfucker.
.) I have a Hebrew name, but I hated it for a while because a friend in Hebrew school made fun of it, calling me "Creambar." (It rhymes with that)
.) I'll only wear enormous headphones that cover my entire ear. Often I wear them even when I'm not even listening to anything.
.) I turned down someone with the excuse that I was too in love with an inanimate object. It was Slayers, and it was true. Must have sucked to have been him at that moment. Oh well. Worked out nicely for me.
.) I firmly believe that movies have never been the same since Lord of the Rings, and no dramatic battle scene will ever live up to Helm's Deep and Pelinor Fields.
.) I have never cried at a movie as much as I cried at "Return of the King."
.) When I was little, I really wanted to play major league baseball. Or any kind of baseball. In fact, now that I think about it, I'd really enjoy playing baseball right now. I wonder if the Madison Mallards accepts women?
.) I started watching X-Files because of Megan (Ridley), and I used to have to call her up to ask her questions about characters and things that were going on. Now she has to ask me about everything, and I can identify episodes by their name alone.
.) Every time I think about it, I sincerely regret not slapping the shit out of/socking the son of a bitch who broke the motherfucking door to our apartment when I had the chance.
.) I knew my anxiety was at its worst when I was afraid of flying.
.) Public places I have slept in include: Mudd, King, Peters, the Science Center, Wilder, Tappan Square, the floor of the EAS office, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
.) I will be duly impressed with anyone who isn't Theresa who reads all of this, and especially impressed if people actually find things in here they didn't know about me.
.) I'm pretty certain that Oni would like it if I went to bed soon.
.) I once helped a shopping cart make the incredible journey home three months after I had helped steal it from a supermarket. The very thought of it continues to uplift me even now.

And I think that's a fairly positive note.

Goodnight.

I read it all and it made me smile a lot! Memories...

Wow I cried more in Japan in one week than you did the entire time. Fucking Japan! Maybe I should direct that at one particular person, considering I only cried twice during my year of high school.

Unfortunately I have to go to grammar class now...I can't wait to go home next month!
