So my story of Otakon goes something like this.

Despite my plans on getting to the airport in time to get our bags on the plane (which meant we got up at 3:15 and left at 4), the security line was incredibly long and terribly slow, such that I was certain we were going to miss the flight. We finally made it through just as they started paging us, and Chris ran ahead to tell them we were coming, while I grabbed all our stuff and then ran with it. In retrospect, we really should have done it the other way around, because I thought I might have my very fist asthma attack.

But we made it.

And eventually we got to D.C., from which [livejournal.com profile] yawmin retrieved us. There was gumbo and Rita's. Thursday we drove to Baltimore and accidentally took the scenic route. We folded shirts in accordance with prophecy and surprisingly didn't have to wait in line for the Japanese restaurant.

Friday morning was when I realized that in my incredible brilliance, I had failed to pack half of my button parts. I had thought that the fronts and backs were in a bag together, but nope. Just a bag of the backs. And so I prepared myself for a button-less con, when [livejournal.com profile] infinityduck found a kind girl who shared her button parts and they lasted me all through the weekend. It was amazing. I owe her a squid and so much more.

And then I drew forever, because no one wanted the buttons I brought with me, just commissions. Here are some of the things I drew:

-12 My Little Pony ponies, all for one guy (I thus learned the term "Brony")
-Kurt and whatshisboyfriend from Glee
-5 Llamas with hats
-Some "Drrrr" yaoi that wasn't supposed to be yaoi because the girl wanted to give it to her dad such that he wouldn't know it was yaoi? I don't even know what was going on there.
-Sailor Moon
-Several people at the con
-A tardis
-David Tennant
-Castiel from SPN
-Fire-nation Zutara
-A bunch of original characters
-The perennial "Ed eating cake" button
-A Dolfie
-Diva Charlotte
-Fai and Kurogane from Tsubasa as a doctor and nurse, respectively
-Fai by himself
-A submarine sandwich
-Other stuff I don't remember

My fancy new uniformed Spock doll had many admirers, but no one bought him, so in the end he went home with Aja. I did sell Mystique, though, and to a person on LJ!

Admidst this there was bubble tea, lots of fried food from the concessions, visiting with [livejournal.com profile] junemermaid and [livejournal.com profile] moonscreations and a few trips to the dealer's room. This was actually the first con in years where I bought no Asuka-related goods. It was very strange.

And then eventually, we came back home. And I spent Monday sleeping forever. I had a good time, although it seemed to last barely any time at all. Chris had a good time too, and that was important, as it was his first con and initially I was all worried and stuff.

And so it passed.

Chris got a crabbattle badge.

Giant bubble tea all for Homer. I mean Amber. And Charlotte.

A bad picture of Mystique.

I'm so happy she was purchased and adored! I think this picture is so cute.

Chris and his new sidekick, Wee-Rex.

The loots. Most of it is from Artist's Alley, even the fantabulous surfing guinea pigs shirt. I got a free Otakon sweatshirt and most of the Charlotte widgets I could find. And a fucking beautiful book of the Shinkai Makoto's backgrounds. Shinkai is the artist whose face-punchingly gorgeous stuff is what I make my LJ layouts out of, and I just about chewed the book when I saw it. And then literally as I was looking through it, they made an announcement that he was doing a signing. He was there at the con and I missed it. That'll teach me to pay attention to the guests in the future. :F

And uh...I just realized the only picture of Aja and I is on Chris' camera. Durn.

Stay tuned for a totally ridiculous Charlotte-related recap, because I had an idea and then I ran with it and it got out of hand the end.

Thank you! I was happy she sold, especially after someone said she was creepy.

I DREW SO MANY PONIES. THEY WERE SURPRISINGLY DIFFICULT TO GET RIGHT. From what I can recall, I drew Fluttershy, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Apple Jack, DJ Pon3, Derpy Hooves, Dr. Hooves, Rainbow Dash and...I don't know the names of the other ones! I even had to draw one of them over again because I switched the colors around on the hair and body and the guy was kind of :\ about it. But hey, he paid me $30 in total, so it all worked out okay.

Well, Mystique is supposed to be a little creepy, isn't she?

Of course I'm glad you sold all the pony buttons, but I wish I could see them. :)

I guess, I just assumed they were judging my doll skills and I was sad!

If you're reeeeeaaaaally good, I'll draw some ponies especially for you. ;)

You should definitely check it out sometime, and if I'm there come and see me! I'll be the short one looking crazed behind a button maker. :)

I was hoping we'd get free baseball, but no such luck. Siiiiigh.

Hehehe I will surely if I do go! I might have to next year now that I have a bunch of friends who go. :)

It was so wonderful seeing you! I wish I'd stopped by when you weren't so busy! Ahh! Bad timing.

It's always lovely seeing you, you obnoxiously beautiful and generous person!

And I'm sorry I was so busy, I never know how to judge these things, arrrr! If only people would buy the stuff I already have made!

That sounds exhausting and super fun and more exhausting.

So the curse continues with you and flights?

That's a pretty good summation!

AND IT DOES. I can't even believe it. Admittedly, the bags would have made it to DC, and we probably would have sooner or later, but I mean...urrgh! It was all very dramatic, and Aja made fun of me.

Oh, I meant to ask:

Did you run into the Ice Cold Water Man while you were there?

God, I love the internet and its weirdness.

I saw other water men, but I don't remember him! But then again most of the time during the heat of the day I was in my subterranean cave drawing ponies, so I probably missed him.

Now I'm sad though! He looks awesome.

An asthma attack while you were trying to board? Not fun!

"We folded shirts in accordance with prophecy."

And I LOLd all over the place at that.

It's amazing how sharey people can get at cons. Warms the cockles of my heart, it does.

OMG the commissions you did? SO AWESOME. I laughed at that too. Even the head-scratcy Drrr part.

Wee rex is a good sidekick.

Well it wasn't a full asthma attack since I don't actually have asthma... yet. But my allergist seems to think it's just a matter of time. Regardless, my breathing was pretty horrid and Chris was afraid I might pass out. But my place was to get on the plane, *then* pass out. And it all worked out okay!

Con sharing is con caring! And sometimes con creepy! :D

I never honestly thought I'd have to draw so many ponies. They are surprisingly hard, at least for me.

Wee-Rex is a fabulous addition to our lives, it's true!

I had allergies that bad at one point! Your allergist is being really pessimistic. I believe you can work this out! I've seen it happen.

The whole bronies business is NUTS. Good nuts, but still nuts.

"Con sharing is con caring! And sometimes con creepy! :D"

HELL YEAH. FISTBUMP.

Does this mean I was the only person to buy your premade buttons? They were so good though. :C

From: [identity profile] maypirate.livejournal.com
AHA, you are a button customer, mysterious LJ person! I was wondering who you were. Which one did you buy? :D

And a few other people bought stuff, but I guess the thrill really is in having your own custom button. I can't *entirely* blame them. :F

I got the MADNESS Totoro one and the one with Kirk & Bones wearing star antennae. You might also remember my enormous button labcoat.

Because of my obsession with buttons I've been offered custom ones a lot... I never want anything, though. Having my own, one-of-a-kind buttons is fun but... I don't know, it's hard to explain. xP
